Tsingyan Electronics has recently completed the acquisition of Maxwell’s supercapacitor OEM production line in China. This strategic move strengthens its core industrial resources and propels domestic dry‑process supercapacitors into the world‑class tier. Within only a few years, China’s dry‑process supercapacitor industry has achieved leap‑frog development, shifting from technological dependence to independent controllability and onward to global deployment.

Technological Breakthrough: From Innovation to Mass Production

In 2019, Tesla completed the full acquisition of Maxwell. Maxwell’s proprietary dry‑electrode technology became a core foundation for the R&D and mass production of 4680‑format batteries. At that time, China’s new‑energy industry faced critical technological bottlenecks in this field.

Against this backdrop, drawing on over 20 years of technical accumulation from the Laboratory of Advanced Energy‑Storage Materials and Devices at Tsinghua‑Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsingyan Electronics overcame technical barriers in 2020. The company launched solvent‑free, low‑energy‑consumption, high‑energy‑density automotive‑grade dry electrodes and built China’s largest dry‑electrode production line for supercapacitors with an annual capacity of 1 million square meters, supplying stable and reliable domestic‑alternative solutions for downstream customers.

Starting in 2021, Tsingyan established production bases spanning 38 000 m² across Shenzhen, Dongguan and Changzhou, forming a closed vertical industrial chain covering dry‑process supercapacitor electrodes, cells, modules and systems.

Capacity Upgrading: Completing the Full‑Chain Closed Loop

In another major strategic step in 2025, Tsingyan Electronics acquired Maxwell’s Chinese supercapacitor OEM line and carried out production‑line renovation and upgrading. Maxwell’s proven capacitor line delivers outstanding product consistency and stable operation with top‑tier comprehensive quality.

Following the acquisition, Tsingyan integrated its self‑developed core PIFs process and automotive‑grade quality‑control system. By opening up mature production assets, high‑end supply‑chain resources and premium customer bases, the company substantially shortened the mass‑production ramp‑up cycle and realized dual‑way empowerment of technology and manufacturing.

The upgraded production line has achieved multiple major advances: markedly improved quality consistency, greatly reduced internal resistance, introduction of laser‑welded products, and inheritance of Maxwell‑grade quality standards to rapidly meet diversified market demands.

    Value Leap: Full‑Industrial‑Chain Independent Controllability

This acquisition enables all‑round progress for Tsingyan’s supercapacitor business across four dimensions: technology, capacity, cost and market. ‑ Technologically: Benchmarks and integrates Maxwell’s Chinese supercapacitor OEM‑line expertise. ‑ In capacity: Operates a fully‑automated 25 ppm production line with an annual output of 3 million supercapacitor units. ‑ In cost: Cuts expenditure on trial‑and‑error and certification procedures. ‑ In market: Gains access to high‑end global core supply chains, helping China’s domestic dry‑process supercapacitor industry seize initiative within the global new‑energy landscape.

Going forward, equipped with a more complete dry‑process supercapacitor portfolio, enhanced manufacturing capacity and a more open supply‑chain ecosystem, Tsingyan Electronics will drive large‑scale adoption of dry‑process supercapacitors in global energy storage, power batteries and high‑end equipment sectors. Through technological innovation and industrial collaboration, Tsingyan will push global dry‑electrode technology to new heights.
